Call Me by Your Name, Love & Other Drugs, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society: Valentine's Day Special

Love is in the air and also on Netflix. If you have a Valentine or are spending it happily alone, these movies will make all your plans a lot more fun and romantic! Suggestions will be from Netflix so all you need to worry about is making the popcorn. Given below is a list of the top 10 romance and romedy movies to watch on Netflix.

1) Crazy Stupid Love

There will never be a time when I don’t list Crazy Stupid Love for a top romedy movie. A movie that stars Emma Stone, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore is bound to be great.  The story will make you laugh and swoon. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have great chemistry. Having mentioned that, the movie is so sweet that it can be watched with family, friends and your partners, and it has Ryan Gosling. It is a movie that everyone should watch at least once. A perfect watch for a fun Valentine’s day evening.

2) Call Me By Your Name

There is romance and then there is Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. Starring Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer, the movie has won several awards. Originally written by Andre Aciman, the movie is a sensual and subtle love story between a young Italian boy and an American research assistant. A story of first love and loss but also of growth. The movie will show you the power and beauty of love. Beautiful scenes set in the dreamy town of Crema, this movie is an art for all senses.

3) Win It All

Are you a fan of New Girl? Do you also love Jake Johnson? This movie has Jake Johnson playing a man similar to Nick. If Nick had not met Schmidt that is. Surprisingly good and blushingly romantic. Who does not guiltily watch “I-Can-Fix-Him-Movies?” Joe (Johnson) is a gambling addict who lives on the thrill of the highs and lows. Living broke and doing the bare minimum, Joe meets a young nurse. She makes him go for morning dates and forces him to see life in a responsible way. The good thing about the movie is that it is not too on the nose about a good girl fixing an irresponsible boy. It is cute and entertaining and light enough to set a mood for the rest of the evening.

4) Pride and Prejudice

I would give Mr Darcy and Elizabeth a fighting chance against Rose and Jack. Mr Darcy would also have given up the wooden plank for Elizabeth who would instead hit him on the head for being stupid enough to not share it with her. Jack would never stretch his hand, trying to absorb every bit of Elizabeth just because he helped her up the carriage. If you and your partner are fans of enemies to lovers, then watching the best one should be on your to-do. Also, if you are anything like me, then you already have plans for an Austen Marathon.

5) Love & Other Drugs

I forgave Jake Gyllenhaal. Judge me all you want, but there was something messed up about their whole relationship from the beginning itself. Jake has done some great movies and I will not be shamed for watching them. Love & Other Drugs, stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathway who have such great chemistry together. The story is about so many things like loss, life and the slow growth of love. The changing dynamics of relationships.

6) Set It Up

While setting up their bosses, two assistants try to make their own jobs much easier. Yet, there seems to be something completely new brewing in the dynamics between the two offices. A romantic comedy that stars Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell, is entertaining, to say the least. With a heart in the right place, they give a well-delivered office romance story, that is a little bit of office and a lot of love. The story is so pleasantly paced that throughout the movie, one cannot help but smile. It is corny but not in an embarrassing way.

7) The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

An adaptation of a book by the same name which is written by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The movie stars Michiel Huisman and Lily James, which is set at the end of World War 2 years. Lily James plays the role of Juliet Ashton who is a writer while Huisman is a small farmer and a member of the Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Society. Ashton gets curious about this peculiar community and when she visits the place, a lot of other things get uncovered too. Historic romance along with a touch of mystery, it is not a simple romance but is as beautiful as one.

8) Handsome Devil

The beauty of this movie is a lot more than Andrew Scott. He gives a great performance but it is the setting of this movie that beats everything. A small remote boarding school that has lush fields as well as an almost dead poet society kind of vibe to it. The movie is about two young students who could not have been more different. They are roommates but because of the uptight nature of the teachers regarding homosexuality, all they agree to it is being friends. With elements of rugby and music, the movie is a must-watch.

9) Tune In For Love

We love a tale of romance that beats the odds of time. This Korean romance drama is a story of such love. Mi Soo and Hyun Woo meet in a bakery in the 1990s and fall in love while exchanging stories on a radio station, but their paths keep crossing, and the time never seems to work together. Starring Kim Go-Eun and Jung Hae-in, the movie is ideal if you or your partner love Korean films.

10) Silver Linings Playbook

David O. Russell’s Philly-set masterwork is a remarkable combination of enormous laughter, searing reality, and a compelling love tale about two hot messes who fall for each other as they heal from tremendous trauma. Silver Linings Playbook does a bold conceptual balancing act and never falters, much to the surprise and pleasure of anybody who watches it.
