With the Marvel Cinematic Universe exploring Nordic Mythology (Odin, Thor, Loki, and others) and Percy Jackson taking a hold on Greek Mythology; the Indian cinema refuses to fall behind and has introduced ‘Brahmāstra’ featuring an ‘Astraverse’ and Marvel-like graphics.

Set to release on 9th September 2022, Brahmāstra is directed by Ayan Mukerji and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, and Mouni Roy.

Within a few hours of the trailer going up, it reached 10 million views across various channels.

This movie is a part of a 3-part series.

‘Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva’: What The Trailer Tells Us

The trailer introduces us to a secret society of sorts, the Brahmānsh, that has for generations protected many divine ‘astras’ (or, weapons) that were created in ancient times in India and have been hidden from the rest of the world for keeping them safe. Brahmāstra is the most powerful and deadliest of all astras / weapons, and it is waking up and threatening to destroy the universe.

There are forces of good and evil in this world, like any other. Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna are shown on the side of goodness and Mouni Roy is the carrier of all evil.

The movie has established itself well in the VFX realm already. It’s high on CGI and vibrant colors.

The trailer presents to us Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva – a stereotypical boy-next-door, who has absolutely no clue of the ‘astraverse’, let alone that he is somehow connected to the brahmastra. He then meets Isha (Alia Bhatt) and there’s an innocent romance brewing between them. In a simple moment between them, Shiva’s secret is revealed to Isha – fire does not burn him, he has a “special” relationship with fire.

Once Ranbir Kapoor’s and Amitabh Bachchan’s characters meet each other, it is revealed to Shiva that he is the savior of the world, and Shiva eventually assumes that role.

‘Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva’: Its Production and Reach

Its production had originally begun in 2017. Due to delays caused by the pandemic and other factors, the reshoots ended earlier this year.

Ayan Mukerji (the director) says. “I am probably more affected by things from Indian roots by our gods and goddesses, by stories of Indian history, perhaps more than superheroes. It’s a combination of influences that have affected me in this film.”

The movie will be released in five languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
